The Estefan AG Gargost (EGGA) Scholarship
Fund: 2007-2008
The
EGGA Scholarship was established in 2001 with the goal of alleviating the
burden of one financially challenged student at the Universidad Adventista
de las Antillas (UAA), my Alma Mater. This year, I want to establish a
fund that will assist a greater number of students on an ongoing basis.
UAA is an international school with students coming from just about
every corner of the World. While a student there I met many fellow
students that could not afford going home for the holidays. Therefore,
I decided to find ways to raise money to put together a meal and gift
exchange among the students. Soon I had professors and staff donating
food products, money, gifts, etc... I still remember how Mr. Nazario,
a friend and resident advisor in the dorm, would help me by opening the
doors of sleeping students and placing their gifts in boxes filled with
straw.
Every recipient of an EGGA Scholarship is required to dedicate 10-20 hours/month to community service- supporting any philanthropic organization,
or creating their own group of service. Their support of this
institutions must be free of political and religious interests and bias.

El Fondo de la Beca Estudiantil Estefan AG
Gargost (EGGA): 2007-2008
La beca EGGA fue establecida en el 2001 con
la meta de aliviar la carga de estudiantes con necesidad financiera en la Universidad Adventista
de las Antillas (UAA), mi Alma Mater. Este año
quiero establecer un
fondo el cual asistirá a un numero mayor de estudiantes y en una forma
continua.
La UAA es una universidad con estudiantes de casi todos los países del
mundo. Mientras fui estudiante allí, me encontré con otros estudiantes
que no podían pagar por un pasaje a su hogar para las Navidad. Fue
entonces que decidí buscar maneras de recaudar fondos para preparar una
comida y crear un intercambio de regalos entre los estudiantes. Dentro
de poco ya tenia otros estudiantes y profesores donando tiempo, dinero,
alimentos, etc... Todavía recuerdo como el Sr. Nazario,
compañero de estudios y monitor del hogar de varones, me ayudaba
abriendo las puertas y entregando los regalos mientras estos dormían.
Todo recipiente de la EGGA debe dedicar 10-20 horas/mes a servicio
comunitario- dando apoyo a alguna organización filantrópica, o creando su
propio grupo de servicio. Su apoyo debe ser libre de intereses
políticos y religiosos- dando apoyo a cualquier persona sin pensar en esos
detalles superficiales.
