| About this theme / Acerca de este
tema |

This subject is inspired by a myriad of emotions and
experiences. They may be as lighthearted as Bar Scene, created
with the express purpose to show someone that "stick figures"
can make great artwork; or as intense as Man with the Straws,
which is a serious look at how frail relationships can become
tight prisons.
You see, I rarely paint true-to-life people- there's not much
satisfaction from taking a subject and pasting their exact
likeness on canvas. Looking deeper into a person's soul and
making that soul tangible is where I find true enjoyment. Let me be
clear- I'm not talking about happy fulfillment here. Take for
instance these two paintings:

| Portrait of the Artist in Pain |
Grandma Loses her Dignity |
Portrait of the Artist in Pain was painted when I underwent an
anterior disctectomy. A very painful experience with long lasting
effects. Not a fun experience, but it motivated me to paint
about how I felt.
Grandma Loses Her Dignity is a painting about
how the elderly become entangled in a meaningless life, with their
experiences dictated by someone else.
Ask me to paint a portrait of you, but you may not like what gets
plastered on the canvas.
